I hope you’re not lying to me, Hawkass. And trust me, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it was O’Doherty.

Not a Sleeping Beauty | Natasha & Clint
Natasha’s jaw tightened. She had been out for a week? She shouldn’t have been unconscious for that long. Seven days not in the field was seven days too many. Natasha shifted in her bed. It felt strange to be the victimized, sitting idly as everyone else ran around to do everything for you. She never liked to receive help from others - though she rarely ever needed their aid. Turning to look at Clint, she could tell that he was still tense and stressing over her. Natasha hated that she was the source of his worries, because she believed that she wasn’t worth it. That her life wasn’t worth his. She had gotten herself into the mess, so she was fully responsible for whatever occurred. Natasha could only imagine what Clint might have done to get her back from Loki if he hadn’t gone with the rest of the Avengers. Normally, she would start biting his head off for doing something so irrational and idiotic, but the expression on his face made it seem he already felt guilty for all that happened. ”You shouldn’t fret about me. I’m alright Clint,” Natasha said to him, in further reassurance. “What happened to Loki?” she asked soon after, driving the conversation back to the mission, as an attempt to keep Clint’s mind off of the level of her well-being. |

I’ve had a lot on my plate lately. How’s S.H.I.E.L.D. treating you, Carol? Hopefully you haven’t been harassed too much by a select few of our…charming members.

Not a Sleeping Beauty | Natasha & Clint
Natasha couldn’t even begin to describe how relieved she was to hear his voice. Though as real and whole she could tell he was in this reality, she still couldn’t shake the one she had just woken up from. Her muscles were a bit limp, so it took more effort than what was would have been necessary to make herself sit upright on the infirmary bed. She stared at his face, re-analyzing his features, to confirm that this was her Clint. Not the one from her nightmares, but the one she knew wasn’t under Loki’s spell. The heavy bags under his eyes and the slight stubble growing on his face made it clear that Clint hasn’t had a well-rested night for days. She looked down at their hands, her fingers twitching to life so she could firmly wrap her hand around his to assure him that he didn’t have to treat her with so much fragility. Natasha swallowed before clearing her throat. ”How long have I been out?” she asked, attempting to force her vocals to sound smoother. |

Not a Sleeping Beauty | Natasha & Clint“BARTON!” Natasha hollered over the explosion behind her, instinctively throwing her arms over her head as she ducked from flying debris. Her partner seemed to ignore her screaming as he shot another arrow at her, whizzing past her jaw as it barely missed her, hitting one of Loki’s minions between the eyes. She hadn’t even noticed someone was creeping behind her. And she always knew. She always sensed it. Natasha wordlessly thanked him, despite how much it bothered her that her game was a bit off. In the distance, she heard a faint beeping — it had to have been another bomb waiting to detonate. “We need to get out, now,” she shouted over the noise. Clint nodded in response, as they began to dash to the docks, towards a couple of vacant jet skis she saw floating nearby. Natasha ran ahead to lead them towards their only means of escaping when suddenly, a gunshot rang through the air and a sharp pain shot through her shoulder. She bit down hard on her lip as she let of a muffled cry, but she pushed herself to continue moving forward. They were so close to the docks, she could smell the saltwater. Another gunshot. Pain shot through the back of her knee, making her fall forward. Natasha bit down harder on her lip. Rolling over, she let out a small gasp, overwhelmed by the affliction of her wounds. She heard footsteps before seeing Clint hovering over her, bow and arrow in his hands, aiming at her, ready to release a clean shot to her heart. Natasha’s pulse raced with fear as she looked up at him with a strained expression. She could hear the beeping from the bomb speed up. It was going to detonate in a matter of seconds. ”It’s time, Agent Barton,” a cold voice came from behind Clint. Loki appeared next to Clint’s, but Natasha couldn’t pull her attention away from the person she thought she trusted the most. ”Goodbye, Agent Romanoff.” The last thing she saw before he let go of the arrow were tight pale lips, and hauntingly icy blue eyes. Natasha’s eyes slowly opened as blaring white lights filled her vision. Her breaths were short and quick, and she could hear the same beeping from moments before she had died. She had died hadn’t she? It was all too real for it to not have been. But where was she? Natasha wasn’t one to believe in the afterlife, but if it was, it smelt too…sterile. As her eyes began to readjust, she was able to make out a blurry, dark figure next to her. Though from the way they hunched themselves over on the chair, to the short spiked hair, she immediately recognized who it was. With a strained, raspy voice, dry from underuse, she managed to say one thing. ”Clint?” |
